LoamSelf-Watering Planter

Water it on Sunday

Studio demo

Studio demo. A cutaway animation that explains the mechanism part by part, then runs a week to show the routine.

A cross-section of a terracotta planter under a pilea. A marigold watering can pours into the side fill spout, water runs down a channel in the wall into the reservoir, a cotton wick rises into rooted soil, a lens shows the float rising in its window, and a day ticker at the top is lit on SUN.

The creative question

How does a self-watering pot actually work?

Who it's for

Plant buyers who hear “self-watering” as a gimmick, because they can’t see what is inside the pot.

The idea and the hook

Show the mechanism plainly, then run a week on a ticker: the level drops, and you refill on Sunday.

The chosen hook

A pilea unfolds over the pot as “Water it on Sunday.” lands, with “Sunday.” circled.

The demo creative approach

The pot splits into a hatched cross-section, and each part gets one plain caption and label: the reservoir fills, the cotton wick darkens as it draws water up, and a lens shows the float. A Monday-to-Sunday ticker then lowers the water until a watering can refills it. The labels name parts, not results.

Development

Three frames that carried the decisions, in the order they appear in the film.

  1. Hook: the routine comes first, with “Sunday.” circled like a date on a calendar.
  2. One part per caption. The reservoir label steps back as the wick’s arrives, so there is one new thing to read.
  3. The shell closes for the end card, and the float window now shows a full reservoir.
