The studio

The thinking behind the sauce.

Extra Sauce is a creative studio for ecommerce brands. We combine product research, creative strategy and AI production to develop video and static advertising content.

Principles in practice

Three rules, shown in the work.

Each principle comes with an example from studio development material, so you can see the decision, not just the word.

  1. 1. Start with the product.

Understand the source material and the question the creative needs to answer.

    In practice

Before any concept, we read the product page, the packaging and the questions buyers ask. For the Wend weekender the question was capacity: “28 litres” means little to someone who can’t pick the bag up. So the film opens on the number, then counts illustrated items in.

Frame 01: an empty, open olive weekender under the line “28 litres. Let’s be specific.”
Frame 02: a laptop, folded tees and two pairs of trousers counted into the bag, captioned “03, 2 trousers”.
Wend 28L Weekender, “Show the utility”. The opening states the capacity; the next frames count it out, item by item. Studio demoSee the project
  2. 2. Give every concept a reason.

Explain the angle and the intended communication before choosing the production treatment.

    In practice

Each concept gets a written angle before it gets a format. For Murk the angle was “make the ratio the hero”, so the treatment had to show one part concentrate working with three different mixers in a single glance.

Three glasses of Murk mixed with milk, tonic and water under a 1:3 badge, each labelled “+ 3 parts”.
    Angle
    Make the ratio the hero.
    Reasoning
One part Murk, three parts anything turns “concentrate” into a simple, flexible habit.
    Treatment

Murk Cold Brew, the ratio frame. The angle set the composition: one ratio, three glasses. Studio demoSee the project
  3. 3. Direct, review, refine.

Use human judgement to shape the output and review product and brand accuracy.

    In practice

The demonstration review considers: packaging, logos, proportions, colours, product behaviour, and spoken and on-screen claims. Anything that drifts is directed again or corrected in the edit.

The Murk hook frame: the bottle under the line “Pour decisions.” Four numbered review points are marked on it.

    Review points on this frame

    1. On-screen line matches the approved script
    2. Cap and bottle proportions
    3. Liquid colour consistent across frames
    4. Label text and logo legible
